HPE I-S: Module 8 (Advocacy Snapshot)

As per course,

"Online Task 8.3 (Reflect/Share) : Shapes Reflection Activity

Using the Shapes Reflection Activity, reflect on our journey together about new ways of thinking about teaching HPE.  Address each shape in your post.

As per discussion,

"Square: Things I feel are square in my mind are,

It is not uncommon to have a student who you feel uncertain how to address immediately; that school administration is there to support you when you are uncertain; and that focused courses are actually a levelled field for genders as it should be based on one's personal gains rather than one's 'value to the team' (as this is sometimes a matter of confidence/low self-esteem as a barrier).

Triangle: Three points I want to remember are,

that there is a great amount of attention and space available for social justice discussions in an HPE classroom. There are a series of support systems for HPE CT's who are willing to be apart of a change in curricular tone. Finally, I'd like to remember that an HPE teacher has impact on the school community just as much as the next teacher.

Circle: Something I am rolling around in my head is,

the question of the models, if there is so much negative implication on TGFU from a matter of gender and relation to its roots/function in the residential schools, why is it still seen as something worth salvaging as TGFU? Why aren't we working towards the advocacy of other models in more depth?"
