As per course,
"Read the OPHEA article How to Assess for Student Success that focuses on 7 Key Messages to ensure quality assessment in HPE. Based on your learning from the reading above, post a brief reflection using the following format:
Stop (I still feel unprepared to…)
Go (I would like to explore in more depth…)
Proceed with Caution (Considering the context in which I will be teaching, I need to consider…)
As per discussion,
"Stop (I still feel unprepared to…)
I feel it is a difficult task to create the criteria of an assessment together with students as HPE is not solely physical activity assessments (Key Message #2), in most cases, it is possible-but in regards to student engagement, it feels difficulty to say I can confidentially do this all the time.
Go (I would like to explore in more depth…)
I look at Key Message #3 and feel this is something worth exploring, allowing the students to make decisions on what they are being assessed on, whether is movement based skills or the combination of strategic movements to accomplish a more complex goal, I think it is great that students have a chance to participate in something they feel interested in-hopefully the equipment room is fully stocked.
Proceed with Caution (Considering the context in which I will be teaching, I need to consider…)
I need to ensure that my rubrics and assessments are functional and understandable to students who are second language English speakers. This means that they often have more questions than one may be prepared to answer and the parents amplify the need to receive a direct answer. These are the kinds of questions that come from unfamiliarity of the 4 point achievement chart, a strong confidence in being able to do *what is needed* and the resources to achieve the goals (but the inability to problem solve them in the first place)."
