"Write a letter to a principal as if you were applying for a position at a designated school. State the qualities that you as a teacher would bring as well as state how you can impact the school environment in a positive way. Think about the many roles of a teacher and how you would continue to support and build capacity within the school."
I'll share an example and grade once its completed.
"Scientists understand the “Killer” whale (Orca) as one of the most socially adept creatures on the planet, even more so than humans-the lobe of the brain which regulates emotional responses is an enlarged part of their brain, 5 times larger than that of a human. I feel teachers aspire to the empathetic capacity and altruism that this creature is capable of. My name is Carmelo Bono and I am applying for a teaching position within Niagara Catholic District School Board’s Lakeshore Catholic Secondary School. What interests me in a position as a teacher is the experience as it serves towards a position as a Catholic Educator in Ontario. I feel more confident in various assessment strategies since I first started teaching professionally. My experience in equitable teaching can speak to my abilities to carry out curriculum as a teacher requires for their class with high effectiveness. My classroom scaffolding and differentiation techniques that vary between technological activities and active learning lessons depending on availability of resources. My experiences at MLIS (an offshore BC school in China) provide me with necessary abilities to manage a classroom positively. I am currently teaching at I/S level in the P.E. and English department. Other teaching experiences are in teaching Careers Ed., Mathematics (Junior/Intermediate) Food and Nutrition, and Tourism. I am hopeful in continual completion of additional qualifications in FSL. My time at MLIS required a strong basis and confidence in transparency and fairness, specifically in regards to ELL teaching. Schools here in Ontario will greatly benefit from having a teacher with practical experience in special education and ELL on staff.
I serve not only as a classroom teacher, but a representative of my faith and a sponsor for the following extra-curricular clubs/activities, Norman Bethune Club, Terry Fox Club, Yearbook, Badminton Club, Basketball, Sanshou Club, Cooking Club, Skateboarding Club and Comic Club. I actively participate in Annual Activity Day, Sports Day, COVID Weekend quarantine activities, tutorials and other extra-curricular events for the student body (socially and academically). In participating, it is faith in the teachings of the lord that makes me confident my efforts serve to help students develop themselves. This is my motivation for seeking further experiences in teacher leadership roles and AQ’s. The investment in my skills can go back to my original position in which I was a member of the Professional Development Committee (a.k.a. PLC). As a facilitator, I am showcasing my abilities in the kitchen for teachers during professional development activities to elaborate on the means to work towards a project based learning experience for unfamiliar teachers or even how collaborative inquires operate in the classroom, among other things. My activities in the PLC really inspires me to inquire more about additional qualifications. This is the reason for the journey that has brought me to my completion of Specializations in Reading and Teaching ELL.
What a lot of faith educators don’t consider is that Jesus himself is a blue-collar working class hero in a turn of the century profession before he took on the responsibilities bestowed upon him by God. We may not be educating the 21st century savior in particular, but we as faith educators, can certainly use the experiences and reflections of faith to emphasize how there is a necessity for not only understanding technology in the workplace but utilizing it to its most full potential. Jesus doesn’t just create things with hands, he mends and bends what individuals think they know about themselves and the world through questioning what they know."
